Investing in Rural America Essential to Job Creation and Business Growth

"USDA Rural Development State Director Colleen Landkamer announced that applications are being accepted for grants to provide economic assistance to independent producers, farmer and rancher cooperatives and agricultural producer groups through the Value-Added Producer Grant Program.

Minnesota farmers and ranchers have been awarded almost $13 million in Value-Added grants since 2003. Application deadline is August 29, 2011. For further details about eligibility rules and application procedures, see the June 28, 2011, Federal Register. 

Value-Added Producer Grants may be used for feasibility studies or business plans, working capital for marketing value-added agricultural products and for farm-based renewable energy projects. Eligible applicants include independent producers, farmer and rancher cooperatives, and agricultural producer groups. Value-added products are created when a producer increases the consumer value of an agricultural commodity in the production or processing stage.

Please join us at the next Minnesota’s Renewable Energy Roundtable!  

The MNRER is pleased to announce that Congressman Collin Peterson will be joining us for the June 17^th MNRER.  The Congressman will address the group, giving a federal perspective on the state and future of bioenergy.  We are always pleased to get a front row seat with one of Washington’s leading voices on agricultural and rural issues.

The June event will also highlight MNRER Participants -- Hunt Utilities Group and Chippewa Valley Ethanol Coop.   These two innovative energy companies will share their experience and lessons learned.  This is an important opportunity for us to continue learning from one another and share the exciting things happening in Minnesota communities.    

The afternoon breakout sessions will focus on research, infrastructure, economics & finance, public policy & awareness and talent development.
